Trinidad Rancheria Rain Garden Project

We collaborated with Trinidad Rancheria and SHN Engineering and Geologist to create a rain garden in the entry courtyard of the tribal offices. Samara assisted SHN in the design of the garden which collects rain from the rooftops to a retention basin within the garden. the garden was engineered to retain the stromwater and overflow into other landscaped areas and alleviates flooding that was occurring prior to the project implementation. The selected plants are traditional native plants and educational plaques with the traditional Yurok names and uses of the plants are displayed. The overall design of the garden symbolized the local rivers and honor traditional plants while also functioning as a stromwater retention system.
